The vote, which took place yesterday, resulted in 41% in favor of resuming the strike and 45% against.

In the end, there will be no strike. Transport operators have decided not to go on strike in the vote held yesterday, Sunday, by the Platform for the Defense of the Road Freight Transport Sector. They have thuschosen to negotiate with the government on the law prohibiting working at a loss.

In the vote,41% of transport workers voted in favor of resuming the strike on June 30,45% voted against it, and 14% abstained.

"Due to a very close result, transporters have decided not to resume the strike at this time and to enter into negotiations on the implementation of the law, with Plataforma participating as a key player and representative of the sector," they acknowledged in a statement.

The platform acknowledges thathours before the vote, they received a call from the spokesperson for Transportationin the Congress of Deputies of the executive branch itself, proposing an urgent meeting to deliver the draft of the law prohibiting loss-making contracts in transportation and inviting them to become involved in the development of the law.

In this regard, they explain that they are receiving various documents on the current progress of the draft law,"with a commitment that the final text must be ready by July 31(with our participation and approval) so that it can begin to go through the legal channels where it must be approved before it can come into force."

This commitment is what the government had been requesting since March from the National Road Transport Committee (CNTC). It is now extending it to the platform, which threatened to reactivate the strike if this law was not ready before June 30, i.e., one month earlier.

Possible reactivation

However, the platform explains that "this should not be understood under any circumstances as a step backward; on the contrary, it demonstrates the relevance that the platform has gained in recent months."

Therefore, they warn that the strike remains suspended and could be reactivatedat any time if negotiations are not favorable or if the situation requires it.

Regardless, the platform will use this channel of negotiationto demand that the executive branch intervene directly in all cases of abuse involvingtransportoperatorsand all entities that harm or cause damage to road workers.

Also, while negotiations are ongoing, they warn that "we will appear before those customers of transport companies, whether they are operators or factories, to demand that they directly change their pricing policy, payment terms, and treatment of the transport companies and drivers they hire."
